Numerology is the quiet language of numbers
There were not only cards on my grandmother's table, sweet soul. An old notebook always sat at the edge of it, and in that notebook she kept people's birth dates, house numbers, the ages of their children. As a child I thought it was a game. Years later I understood that the notebook was holding a quiet rhythm running underneath life. That is exactly what numerology is. It is a very old way of seeing that treats numbers as anything but accidental, giving each one its own vibration and allowing that vibration to touch the way we live.
Today we are going to look at a single number drawn from your birth date. We call it the life path number. Your life path number speaks of the lesson you came here to learn, the place where your strength is natural, and the wall you keep walking into again and again. It does not write your fate, and I want to say that plainly from the start. It simply holds up a mirror and reminds you of the truth already sleeping inside you.
How your life path number is found
You can work it out yourself, it is very simple. You add together every single digit in your birth date. Say you were born on the fourteenth of May in 1990. The day gives you 1 and 4, the month gives you 0 and 5, the year gives you 1, 9, 9 and 0. Added together they come to 29. Because the result has two digits you add them again and reach 11. That 11 is your life path number. This reducing continues as long as the total stays above nine, until you reach a single digit. You stop only at 11, 22 and 33, because those are master numbers and they carry a meaning of their own.
When you type your birth date into the calculator above I do this work for you, and what appears is not only a number but what that number is whispering to you. Do not rush. Sit quietly for a moment after you read the result. Most people feel their shoulders drop in that first minute, because they have just seen in words something they have known for a long time.
The vibration each number carries
Every number has a temperament. One is the beginning, the leading, the courage that dares to walk alone. Two is partnership, intuition, the fine balance between two people. Three is expression, creativity, the need to pour out what lives inside. Four is foundation, patience, the hands that lay one stone upon another. Five is change, freedom, the spirit that never fits any mould for very long.
Six is tenderness, responsibility, the shoulders that carry the people they love. Seven is depth, searching, the mind that can stay alone even in the middle of a crowd. Eight is power, abundance, the bridge between matter and spirit. Nine is completion, compassion, the heart learning how to let go. None of these numbers is better or worse than another, sweet soul. Each one has its light and its shadow.
The master numbers 11, 22 and 33
Some totals are left standing without being reduced. Eleven is the doorway of intuition, and those who carry it often know things they have no way of knowing. Twenty two is the master between dream and matter, the one who thinks large and then takes that dream into their hands and builds it. Thirty three is the teacher, the most ripened form of love, and it usually carries other people's weight on its shoulders as well.
Carrying a master number may look like a privilege, but in truth it is a heavy invitation. These numbers ask more of the one who holds them. If your number is one of these and life sometimes feels too intense, that is not a mistake. It is simply the nature of the vibration you carry.
How to use your life path number in daily life
I would not want you to read numerology as a verdict of fate. Use it instead as a compass. When you come to the edge of a decision, ask yourself whether you are turning your back on the nature your number describes. Someone carrying a four grows restless when they suddenly want to drop everything and leap into the unknown, because their spirit wants foundation. Someone carrying a five begins to fade when they tie themselves to the same table for years, because their spirit wants movement.
This knowledge exists so that you might be less harsh with yourself, not so that you feel limited. An area where you spent years believing you were incapable may simply never have been your area at all. A talent you spent years thinking was ordinary may be precisely the gift you were given.
How numerology and tarot work together
In my readings I often place the two side by side. Numerology hands you a long map, while tarot shows you where you are standing on that map right now. Your number tells you which road you set out on, and the cards describe the weather at this particular bend. When I read them together the picture becomes far clearer.
If your curiosity has risen after looking at your number, I would suggest glancing at the cards as well. If you want to know what each card says on its own, you will find all of them on the card meanings page. If you want to see which energy is with you today in particular, you can draw the card of the day. And if you want to follow those repeating triple sequences that keep appearing in front of you, the angel numbers page is made for you.
Numbers do not confine you, they remind you
Whatever appears on the result page, I would not want you to wear it like a label. You are far more than a number. Numerology only describes the angle of the light that fell upon you at the moment you were born. What you do with that light, which room you choose to illuminate, is left entirely to your own free will.
Open your heart and enter your birth date. Your number has been waiting for you for a long time.
Frequently asked questions
Is a life path number the same thing as a star sign?
No, my dear, the two look through different windows. Your sign speaks of the sky at the moment you were born, while your life path number speaks of the numerical vibration of your birth date. They do not replace each other, but read side by side the picture looks far more whole. If you also learn your rising sign, the three together give you a surprisingly consistent portrait.
I do not like my number, can I change it?
You cannot, and believe me there is no need. No number is bad. Every number has a light and a shadow, and when someone dislikes their number they are usually living only its shadow side. Moving across into the light of that same number is always possible.
Do people with the same life path number resemble one another?
Their main themes rhyme, but their lives do not. Two people carrying the same number learn the same lesson in different classrooms. One may be working on it through relationships, the other through their work. So think of your number as a sense of direction rather than a mould.
Does a numerology result tell me my future?
It does not, and I would not listen too closely to anyone who claims otherwise. Numerology shows tendencies, not events. Your future is written by your choices. All I try to do is show you which wind you are walking beneath. You are the one steering the ship.
